Why this Blog?

I was introduced to the deep dark world of Kdramas by my cousin a couple years ago. I saw him watch saeguks (historical) kdramas and thought that it was weird. The funny thing is he was watching them because he got introduced to them in grad school by a korean friend. Well the summer before I was accepted into grad school I started doing some research on the these kdramas. I found out a whole online community of nonkoreans who were obsessed. So I after countless I tried my first kdrama,  Boys over Flowers. It was the one that EVERYONE recommended. To truly appreciate kdramas you had to start with that one. They were right. After that I started watching the other classics. Once I started Graduate School my obsession went full on. I needed a stress reliever and I couldn't watch traditional TV because it interfered with  my work and school schedules. However, I could watch kdramas ANYTIME. Now I am an official kdrama addict and proud of it.

KPOP!

Since I've been so bad at updating this blog with Korean drama related material, I'll post some Kpop acts I'm enjoying. I don't know what this says about my tast in actors, but many of my favorite actors are in fact idols. After being introduced to idols via thier dramas I began seeking them out in thier natural habitat. Another reason to try kpop, is I'm currently learning Korean and find it tough/boring to study by traditional methods so I'm using dramas and now songs to help improve my vocabulary and pronunciation.

GIRL GROUPS

SISTAR is a four member girl group formed in 2010 and under Starship Entertainment.

The members are Hyorin (the lead vocalist), Soyou, Bora (the rapper and oldest!) and
Dasom (the youngest). My bias is Hyorin, There are so many reasons to love her. Her voice, being an old cat lady trapped in a young woman's body, and her overall attitude. though I'm side eyeing her for her new interest in rapping. Soyou seems nice enough but I sometimes forget about her. That"s not true she my workout inspiration.  Bora who is  the "pretty one", but I love her for being cute. Dasom isn't that  pretty to me though by KOrean standards she is. However, I love her personality and have enjoyed her most recent kdrama. The drama is light and fun and she's decent for an idol actress. All in all I like them because they are fun, confident, sexy and likable. I'm pushing on 30 and can't with the cute and innocent act from these girl groups.

RED VELVET is a  girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2104. They are pretty new and are still considered rookies? Anyway I really like their music. They seem to experiment with different styles and can sing well.  And  while they do embrace the cute kpop image they still find a way to make it a little kooky and different. I understand that these girls are VERY manufactured but I enjoy them. I mean look at their recent video. It's awesome. 

MAMAMOO  is a four-member girl group formed by  RBW or rainbowbridgeagency. They also debuted in 2014. I love these girls because they have amazing personalities. They have a great sense of humor. They have good styling and concepts. Musically, I like that they  embrace r&b in their songs and have good vocals. They obviously have fun pop songs that you can bop to like all kpop groups. However I like these young ladies.
